Meet Elizabeth: Building new skills, new confidence and a stronger future

In this video, Elizabeth shares her inspiring journey back into education while working and raising a family. After graduating with a degree in Human Resources, she never expected to be back in the classroom, but as industries change and digital skills become essential, she knew she needed to stay ahead. Studying Data Analytics Level 3 at New City College has given her the chance to combine her HR experience with new technical skills and take her career in a fresh direction.

Elizabeth talks about the power of flexible study, learning one day a week while keeping her job, and the value of being part of a diverse classroom where adults of all ages and backgrounds learn from one another. She also speaks openly about what motivates her, from investing in her own future to setting an example for her young son. Her story highlights why funding for adult education matters. Despite her determination, Elizabeth explains that the cost of courses is a barrier for many adults who want to upskill but cannot afford it. She believes that funded learning would unlock opportunities for more people, strengthen communities and help fill the UK’s growing digital and data skills gaps.

Elizabeth’s experience is a powerful reminder that when adults have the chance to learn, everyone benefits.
