Meet Abby

For Abby, her apprenticeship has been a chance to discover her path, gain real work experience, and build confidence in a role she enjoys. From managing policies to supporting clients and keeping the office running smoothly, every day brings new opportunities to learn and grow.

My role is a mix of business administration and customer support. I handle all the documents, update and make changes to policies, liaise with clients, and support the team with general office tasks.

One day a week, on a Tuesday, I have my class at college. In class, we go through the theory side of business administration, covering topics that help me understand why we do things a certain way in the office.

The tutors are really supportive - if I don’t understand something, I can ask them, and they explain it clearly.

Everyone in my class works with a different employer, which is really interesting because we get to hear about what they are doing at work, and it gives me ideas and a wider perspective on the industry.

I didn’t really know what career path to take, but this apprenticeship has really opened doors for me.

The apprenticeship has taught me how an office actually runs. I’ve learnt how to manage deadlines, organise multiple tasks at once, and communicate with clients professionally over the phone and by email. I’ve also gained experience in record keeping, policy management, and supporting a team so that the office runs smoothly every day.

You’re working and learning at the same time, gaining both a qualification and hands-on experience. I think that’s the best thing about it.

I would recommend doing an apprenticeship because of the experience you get and the opportunities it provides.
