Meet Steve: Backing adult learners to power London’s construction industry

Across London, adults are going back to learning-chasing new careers, gaining skills, and changing lives. Our staff are helping them every step of the way, while employers rely on these skilled professionals to keep industries running.

But there’s a growing crisis. Steve, our Group Curriculum Director for Construction, reveals a stark reality: funding for adult courses isn’t keeping up with demand. In building services alone, around £1 million worth of learners aren’t funded. Without action, we’ll have to cut courses next year-limiting opportunities for learners and putting pressure on the industries that need them most.

It’s a problem that affects not just individuals, but the wider workforce and the industries that depend on them. Supporting adult learning isn’t just an investment in education-it’s an investment in the future of London’s economy.
